Rosneft provided support for the XIII International Scientific and Practical Conference “Marine Research and Education: MARESEDU-2024” held in Moscow from October 28 to November 1. The event is organized by M. V. Lomonosov Moscow State University Marine Research Center and the Unesco-MSU Training and Research Center for Marine Biology and Biophysics. The main events of the conference were held at the sites of the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
As part of the conference, Rosneft specialists made a report on the Company’s new project - the creation of a genomic database of living organisms in the Russian Arctic, which is necessary for long-term planning of sustainable development of the region and preservation of its fragile ecosystems. The project is implemented jointly with Innopraktika, a non-state development institute, and the Center for Whole Genome Sequencing. Priority work includes assembling the complete polar bear genome.
In addition, as part of the relevant sessions, specialists from the Severtsev Institute for Problems of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences made a presentation on bird studies as part of Rosneft’s new biodiversity conservation program called Tamura. Scientists from Lomonosov Moscow State University shared with the conference participants the details of a large-scale environmental project in the White Sea, implemented by Rosneft together with Innopraktika. The scientists have repeated the route of the famous Soviet hydrobiologist Konstantin Deryugin, who explored the White Sea in 1922-1926. The purpose of the project is to obtain data on the current state of the White Sea biota and to assess changes in the ecosystems of the region that have occurred over the last 100 years. Rosneft representatives also took part in a roundtable discussion at the N.A. Pertsov White Sea Biological Station (WSBS MSU). WSBS MSU is a research site for a number of the Company’s geological and environmental projects.
In total, more than 1200 specialists took part in the scientific-practical conference. More than 500 scientific papers were presented at sessions on oceanology, ecology, biology, environmental management, marine geology. Along with experienced scientists, future specialists - students of high school and universities - also presented their works. According to the established tradition, the best performances were recognized with prizes from Rosneft - the Company’s environmental atlases.
