To mark Oil and Gas Industry Workers’ Day, the opening ceremony of the final competitions of the 21st Rosneft Summer Sports Games was held at the Izmailovo Concert Hall in Moscow. The sporting event will run until 12 September, with 20 of the strongest teams from Rosneft’s subsidiaries across Russia competing for victory.
Promoting sport is one of the key areas of Rosneft’s social policy. Every year, the Company organises the Summer and Winter Sports Games, the largest corporate sporting events, in which thousands of employees participate. Almost 2,500 athletes from 60 teams representing Rosneft subsidiaries participated in the Summer Games qualifying rounds, held in eight cities across the country.
Over the course of five days at the final competition, oil industry workers will compete in 19 team and individual disciplines to determine the best. The programme includes five-a-side football, volleyball, basketball, powerlifting, table tennis, chess, kettlebell lifting, shot put, running, billiards, shooting, tug-of-war, darts and swimming.
During the opening ceremony, the competitors were welcomed by Igor Nikitin, the head coach of the CSKA ice hockey club, who has won the Gagarin Cup twice and has been crowned Russian champion twice. He wished the athletes fair competition, exciting moments and well-deserved victories.
The festive atmosphere of the event was enhanced by participants in Rosneft’s Energy of Talents corporate festival. They performed their best acts, which were dedicated to the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia. The hall was full, with all participants in the Summer Games enjoying their colleagues’ performances and applauding enthusiastically.
