During the period 2021–2025, Rosneft's enterprises made a substantial contribution to the conservation of nature and biodiversity. This was achieved by planting a total of around 46 million tree seedlings and saplings.
21 March marks International Forest Day, which was established by the United Nations General Assembly to draw attention to forest conservation and the sustainable use of forest resources.
In 2025, Rosneft's employees participated in a reforestation initiative, planting 8.1 million saplings of various species. RN-Yuganskneftegaz, Verkhnechonskneftegaz, East Siberian Oil and Gas Company, RN-Nyaganneftegaz and RN-Uvatneftegaz made the largest contributions to this initiative.
RN-Yuganskneftegaz staff have planted 3.1 million conifer seedlings across an area of over 830 hectares in the forest districts of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District – Yugra. Reforestation efforts were implemented in areas impacted by wildfires in the Agansky, Uraysky, Samarovsky, Nefteyugansky and Yugansky forest districts. The seedlings of Siberian spruce, Scots pine and cedar pine are adapted to local climatic conditions, which improves the survival rate of the young trees.
Verkhnechonskneftegaz has planted 1.1 million Siberian pine saplings across an area of 540 hectares in the Irkutsk and Kirov forest districts, which fall within the boundaries of the Baikal Nature Reserve, as well as in the Kuitun forest district of the Irkutsk Region.
Environmentalists from the East Siberian Oil and Gas Company have planted around 1 million conifer seedlings across an area of over 310 hectares in Siberia. Oil workers have organised agronomic maintenance to improve the survival rate of the saplings. In order to ensure the successful establishment of the forest area, it is essential to clear the planting sites of weeds and to improve the soil conditions. In addition, for over a decade, the enterprise has been supporting scientific research aimed at preserving the fragile ecosystem of Evenkia.
RN-Nyaganneftegaz has planted over 838,000 Siberian and Scots pine saplings across an area of 240 hectares. RN-Uvatneftegaz planted 744,000 pine saplings across 200 hectares of land in the Tyumen Region, and also carried out agronomic maintenance on previously planted forest stands.
In Yamal, RN-Purneftegaz employees planted 443,000 pine saplings across an area of 78 hectares, whilst Sevkomneftegaz planted 83,000 saplings across an area of over 26 hectares, and Kharampurneftegaz planted 24,000 seedlings across an area of 208 hectares. The enterprises' eco-teams were also responsible for the agricultural maintenance of the sites.
Activists from Bashneft have planted 255,000 coniferous trees in the Republic of Bashkortostan and the Tyumen Region. This has created a young forest covering 73 hectares. In 2025, the flagship project involved planting 24,000 trees along the shores of Lake Aslikul — largest lake in Bashkortostan. The initiative addresses a pressing environmental challenge: the shallowing and swamping of the reservoir's coastal zone.
Samotlorneftegaz has planted more than 200,000 coniferous tree seedlings across the Ural Federal District. Over the next few years, a full pine forest will be established throughout the landscaped areas, covering a total of over 60 hectares.
In 2025, volunteers from Samaraneftegaz planted 15,500 pine saplings and 4,000 saplings of other forest species in the Samara Region.
Slavneft-Krasnoyarskneftegaz has planted over 700,000 conifer seedlings across an area of 268 hectares within the Karatuz, Tyukhtet and Uzhur forest districts of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
RN-Vankor has successfully completed agricultural work across an area of almost 400 hectares in the Krasnoyarsk Territory and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District. This work was carried out to maintain the 800,000 pine and Siberian spruce saplings previously planted.
Rosneft employees and their families are committed to environmental initiatives. These include tree-planting and improving urban and park areas. They also participate in nationwide campaigns such as Green Spring, Forest Planting Day, Save the Forest and others.
For instance, as part of the international Memory Garden campaign marking the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, activists from Udmurtneft planted over 24,000 young fir trees. Volunteers from Samaranneftegaz participated in the initiative, planting over 33,000 pine seedlings across an area of 7 hectares. In a joint effort, employees of Orenburgneft and activists from the Movement of the Firsts planted over 10,000 pine saplings across a 4.5-hectare area of the Buzuluk pine forest that had been damaged by a wildfire. As part of the campaign, the Syzran Oil Refinery planted 3,000 pine and birch saplings in the Racheysky forest district. The young forest will serve as a reminder of the immortal heroism of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War.
Preserving the environment for future generations is an integral part of the Rosneft's corporate culture and social policy. The Company implements large-scale environmental programmes aimed at minimising environmental impact, improving the eco-friendly production, and preserving and replenishing natural ecosystems.
