Rosneft Plants over 100 Hectares of Pine Seedlings in Yugra in 2024

29 November 2024

Samotlorneftegaz (part of Rosneft’s oil production complex) planted more than 390,000 pine seedlings in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area–Yugra. The total area planted for the 2024 growing season exceeded 107 hectares.

Seedlings are cultivated in a specialised nursery garden and are fully adapted to the natural and climatic conditions of northern latitudes. Their strong root system enables pine trees to grow securely in sandy and sandy loam soil. Ecologists conducted a soil analysis of the designated area. Following this, the entire area underwent mechanical soil preparation and specific planting furrows were created. Fire barrier lines along the perimeter of the territory protect the future forest from possible natural fires.

Over the next three years, the Company will organise agronomic care for the young trees, removing any grass or unwanted shrubs that overgrow them. The Company’s ecologists will also monitor the trees’ survival rate and replant conifers as necessary.

In as little as eight years, the trees will have grown to a height of one metre and will have formed a sustainable forest on the site. In the future, this pine forest will produce around 80,000 litres of oxygen each year.

For reference:

Samotlorneftegaz, one of Rosneft’s main production assets in Western Siberia, is developing Russia’s largest Samotlor field. The scope of license areas exceeds 3,000 square kilometres.

Since 2008, the enterprise has been regularly carrying out afforestation on the territory of the region’s forestries. During this period, over 2 million conifer seedlings have been planted across an area of over 700 hectares.
