Rosneft and the Altai Territory Department of Tourism and Resort Development presented a new route for tourists travelling by car from Barnaul to Biysk. The route was presented at the 12th International Tourism Forum, VISIT ALTAI.
Rosneft is committed to the development of domestic tourism and aims to create comfortable conditions for car travellers. One of Rosneft’s key objectives is to enhance the quality of its roadside assistance and customer service at its filling stations.
In November 2023, Rosneft and the Altai Territory signed a memorandum of cooperation, agreeing to implement joint projects that would stimulate demand for domestic car tourism and promote the region’s tourism potential.
The 200 km tourist route from Barnaul to Biysk takes in the region’s cultural sights.
Founded in 1730, Barnaul is a city with a rich history. Its growth has been closely linked to mining and trade. There are architectural monuments from different periods, ranging from factory buildings to majestic merchant mansions and temples dating from the 19th and 20th centuries. A walk along the banks of the Ob River offers magnificent views of the floodplain and is a great way to relax and enjoy the beauty and diversity of the local landscape.
Along the route, tourists can visit historic sites such as the village of Kosikha, the birthplace of the renowned Russian poet, Robert Rozhdestvensky. The locals cherish the memory of their famous compatriot. A memorial museum opened here in 2012, housing valuable exhibits including the poet’s personal belongings and previously unpublished poems. Visiting the museum offers an insight into the world of Robert Rozhdestvensky’s work and life. You can also visit the Altai State Memorial Museum of German Titov, the second and youngest person in history to make an orbital flight, on the way.
In the town of Biysk, travellers can visit a museum dedicated to the Chuysky Tract, one of the world’s most picturesque and legendary roads. Alongside historical facts, the museum displays geological, palaeontological, zoological and botanical collections that portray the richness of Altai’s natural landscape. The historical centre of Biysk contains old merchant buildings and many wooden houses that are architectural monuments and examples of wooden architecture. The most famous of these are the Vtorov and Firsov trade passages, belonging to two of the wealthiest dynasties of the 19th and 20th centuries.
Rosneft filling stations will become a place where you can not only fill up your car with quality fuel, have a rest and a tasty snack, but also get information about tourist opportunities in the region. At the same time, the development of roadside services is helping to increase the flow of tourists to the Altai Territory and to attract new customers to filling stations.
Rosneft’s filling station network is the most extensive in the region, covering all major highways on key routes, from the Novosibirsk region to the Altai Republic, and on to Kazakhstan and Mongolia. Rosneft’s filling station network includes 70 stations in the Altai Territory. Most of these are located in Altai districts, which gives them a wide coverage and a high social importance.
Car tourism in Russia has been developing actively in recent years. In May 2024, the government approved the Car Tourism Development Concept until 2035. The aim is to improve the accessibility of tourist facilities and the quality of road services.
For reference:
Rosneft’s retail network is the largest in the Russian Federation in terms of geographical coverage and the number of stations. The Rosneft filling station brand is one of the most recognised in Russia and is renowned for the quality of its fuel. The Company operates around 3,000 filling stations.
In addition to high-quality fuel, the Company offers its customers a wide range of goods and services, including shops, cafés and roadside assistance. For instance, customers can relax and unwind after a long journey by staying overnight at the Company’s roadside hotels and multi-purpose complexes located across several regions. The Company is also developing a new area of filling station customer service: food trucks (mobile retail outlets). The Café on Wheels service is currently available at filling stations in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and other regions where the retail network operates.
Rosneft launched a special information and service platform, “Horizons of Russia: Ride with us!”, in 2023. The platform is a tool that enables car tourists to select and plan routes to places of interest, making use of roadside services and Rosneft filling stations.
To date, 14 developed federal and regional routes have been integrated into the Horizons of Russia project.
You can find details of the joint project for travellers in the Routes section of the Altai Territory tourist portal, визиталтай.рф. This page provides all the information needed to plan a trip, including a map of the route, accommodation and catering facilities, and information about the route’s duration and Rosneft filling stations.
