In 2024, Rosneft subsidiaries provided internships for about 6,500 students, including key universities — the Company’s partners — Lomonosov Moscow State University, Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas (RGU), Far Eastern Federal University and others. Students are introduced to the work of oil workers directly in the Company’s production facilities, enabling future professionals to put into practice the knowledge they have acquired in educational institutions.
Rosneft is developing cooperation with higher and secondary educational institutions in Russia as part of the School-College/University-Enterprise corporate system of continuous education. The Company cooperates with 203 partner educational institutions, including 82 Russian and foreign universities, 65 colleges and 56 schools. Rosneft invests more than 1 billion roubles annually in the development of partner educational institutions. Launched in 2005, the programme aims to build an external pool of young talent from schoolchildren and students in the regions where the Company operates, and to continually develop the professional skills of its employees.
With Rosneft’s support, unique programmes are being created in a number of areas of student education. With the support of RN-Vankor, for example, nine new specialised training areas have been opened at technical schools and colleges. Rosneft’s research institute in Tyumen has established base departments at Tyumen Industrial University and Tyumen State University. The Company’s research institute in Ufa oversees 13 corporate departments at Bashkortostan’s leading universities — Ufa State Petroleum Technical University and Ufa University of Science and Technology. The Company’s base departments at the country’s leading higher education institutions implement specialised master’s programmes, hold conferences and internships, and develop and publish educational and methodological materials.
Its enterprises also play an active role in equipping colleges and universities with modern equipment and laboratories. For example, in 2024 Samotlorneftegaz equipped educational facilities in two branches of Yugra State University — a multifunctional well development and operation simulator was installed at the Oil Institute, and a laboratory for assessing the chemical and physical quality of oil and gas was set up at the Multidisciplinary College. In addition, a geospatial technology laboratory was opened at the Nizhnevartovsk Construction College using the enterprise’s funds. Taas-Yuryakh Neftegazodobycha opened a training complex «Factory of Full Cycle Oil and Gas Production Processes» on the basis of the Regional Technical College, and also equipped the research laboratory «Digital Oil and Gas Field» at the North-Eastern Federal University with high-resolution video panels. Verkhnechonskneftegaz equipped the Irkutsk National Research and Technical University’s Oil and Gas Business Training Centre with a training ground for practical training in safe working practices, and Orenburgneft provided funding for the purchase of a mobile drilling rig for the Geology Department of Orenburg State University. In addition, the Kuibyshev refinery helped the training laboratory of the Chemical Engineering Department of Samara State Technical University to acquire modern pilot plants that are analogues of real industrial oil refineries, and the Syzran refinery opened a class of computer simulators at the Syzran branch of Samara State Technical University.
In order to select and motivate the best students for practical training and further employment, Rosneft enterprises conduct career guidance activities. For example, Udmurtneft held Udmurtneft Days at oil universities in Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Perm, Kazan and Izhevsk. SamaraNIPIneft organised a scientific grant competition for students, postgraduates and masters of Samara State Technical University. 39 participants received cash grants to continue their research work. Specialists from the Novokuibyshevsk Lubricants and Additives Plant, together with teachers from the Novokuibyshevsk Petrochemical Technical School, implemented a pilot project called «Vector of Professionalism», aimed at identifying talented and promising young people among students of subjects relevant to the enterprise.
Rosneft also creates conditions for developing the skills of its scientific and educational staff. Internships for teachers were organised at Angarsk Polymer Plant, Saratov Refinery, RN-Yuganskneftegaz and Samotlorneftegaz. These events allow teachers to gain valuable hands-on experience, learn about modern technology and see the production process first-hand.
