‘Samotlorneftegaz’ (part of Rosneft's oil production complex) allocated 11.2 billion roubles in 2024 for the implementation of environmental protection and nature restoration measures, which is more than 30% higher than in the previous period.
Preservation of the environment for future generations is an integral part of the corporate culture of Rosneft. The Company aims to achieve leadership positions in minimizing the environmental impact and ensuring the eco-friendliness of its production in order to preserving the biological balance in the regions of presence.
Green investments by Samotlorneftegaz are aimed at programmes to improve the reliability of pipelines and reclamation of historical heritage land, disposal of industrial waste, as well as supporting the biodiversity of Siberian rivers and landscaping.
The enterprise maintains the average level of rational utilisation of associated petroleum gas at 98%. This is one of the highest indicators in the Russian oil and gas production industry. The enterprise also applies and develops best practices for monitoring methane emission sources.
Improving the reliability of pipelines is an important area of work. Last year Samotlorneftegaz commissioned more than 232 kilometres of oilfield networks after reconstruction. Stable operation of the field infrastructure is ensured, among other things, through effective diagnostics and application of modern methods of pipeline corrosion protection.
Samotlor's ecologists have completed a large-scale work to restore the biological productivity of the ‘historical heritage’ lands. 2.2 thousand hectares of soils disturbed during the Soviet period of field development were reclaimed during the project implementation. The technical and biological stages of reclamation were carried out year-round due to the extensive use of winter reclamation and phytomelioration technologies. Most of the measures were carried out by the company's own ecological service using specialised equipment for work in areas with high waterlogging.
Due to environmental actions of Samotlorneftegaz in Yugra over the last year more than 2 million fry of valuable fish species were released into the rivers, 390 thousand pine seedlings were planted on the area of 107 hectares.
Along with improving production technologies, the company's employees are committed to environmental values and organise large-scale clean-up days, collect and dispose of waste paper and plastic, plant greenery in urban areas, and participate in nationwide environmental campaigns.
