Rosneft is recognised as the best oil and gas company to be included in the calculation base of the MosExchange-RAEX ESG Balanced Index for 2024.

The index was launched in 2023. It is formed once a year and consists of 15 companies with the highest sustainable development scores from the RAEX rating agency. The index is calculated on the basis of the RAEX ESG ranking, which includes a total of 144 companies from Russia, Kazakhstan and Mongolia by the end of 2024, 18 of which represent the oil and gas industry.

Rosneft’s strategy stands upon the idea of a business that takes into account the highest requirements of industrial safety and environmental protection. Since 2007, the Company has been publishing annual Sustainability Reports in accordance with the international standards of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).

Rosneft has spent more than 440 billion roubles on environmental protection over five years, including more than 270 billion roubles on green investments and about 170 billion roubles on wastewater treatment, land reclamation and other environmental protection works. This has led to impressive results in improving the Company’s environmental performance: air emissions have been reduced by 25%, water discharges by 10% and the area of disturbed land by 14%. The corporate programme has remediated over 800 hectares of contaminated «heritage» land.

Rosneft develops and implements its own cutting-edge technologies, including in the field of air quality control. For example, the Company’s laboratory specialists have developed new air monitoring methods, which have been certified and submitted to the Federal Information Fund on the Uniformity of Measurements. Their introduction has increased the efficiency of air monitoring at a number of enterprises by 35%.

In 2024, the Company’s ESG risk and opportunity management was highly rated by RAEX: Rosneft became the only Russian oil and gas company with a high ESG rating of AA, with the management component receiving the highest rating of AAA. This confirmed the Company’s leading position in sustainable development and the high quality of its disclosure. In addition, Da-strategy, a business development agency, awarded Rosneft, the only Russian oil and gas company, the highest rating of A+ for «Leader of Corporate ESG Practices in the Russian Federation».
