26 July 2024

Rosneft and the Smolensk Region Tourism Development Centre presented a joint project to develop car tourism, aimed at unlocking the region’s tourism potential.

The presentation took place at the Company’s filling stations and at the Centre’s office in Smolensk. During the event, car tourists were treated to a tasting of local cuisine and an informative quiz special prizes.

Rosneft is committed to the development of domestic automobile tourism and aims to create comfortable environment for customers on the road.

The new project includes three car routes along the iconic and picturesque areas of the Smolensk Region. Thanks to the carefully designed route logistics, tourists can use their travelling time rationally and get a feel for the region, while  the «Rosneft filling stations» mobile application makes it easy to find the nearest filling station along the way.

All routes pass through Smolensk - one of the oldest cities in our country. Here you can climb the walls of the longest fortress in Russia, admire the majestic gilded iconostasis of the Cathedral Church of the Dormition and get acquainted with Russian antiquity. Tourists will also enjoy visiting pre-Mongol temples of the 12th century, built on the steep banks of the Dnieper, and viewing paintings from the collection of the Smolensk Art Gallery.

The journey along the route «Between Two Capitals» - Moscow and Minsk - can be filled with stops at places associated with historical events or interesting cultural sites. The car route passes through the town of Gagarin - the small home town of the planet’s first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin - where you can visit the «Museum of the First Flight» and drink water from the well at the Gagarin house, as all cosmonauts do before going into space. At the stopover in Vyazma everyone will enjoy the taste of the famous honey «Vyazma gingerbread» and in Dorogobuzh they will see the biggest globe in Europe - the height of a 4-storey house.

The second route, from Bryansk to Smolensk, will be of particular interest to lovers of classical music. The village of Novospasskoye is the ancestral home of Mikhail Glinka, the founder of Russian classical music. The next stop is the museum complex of traditional Russian art in Flyonovo. Here you can visit the fairytale «Teremok» by Sergey Malyutin - the author of Russian matryoshka dolls - and enter the Church of the Holy Spirit, decorated with a mosaic by Nicholas Roerich.

The third route is from Pskov to Smolensk. On the way, car tourists can visit the picturesque Smolenskoye Poozerie National Park, a UNESCO biosphere reserve. Here you can visit the museum estate of the outstanding Russian traveller Nikolai Przhevalsky and relax on the shore of «Baikal in miniature» - Lake Sapsho. In the town of Demidov you can visit the house museum of the great actor Yuri Nikulin. Another stop on the route is Gnyozdovo. This is Europe’s largest Viking Age burial mound complex on the «route from the Varangians to the Greeks». At the Ethnic Village you can sample medieval cuisine, take part in workshops in ancient crafts, learn martial arts and even play old Russian board games.

There are more than 70 Rosneft filling stations in the Smolensk region, where you can refuel your car with quality guaranteed fuel, have a comfortable rest in a café or buy goods you need on the road, including locally produced goods and souvenirs. Stations along the highway have showers, car parks and outdoor recreation areas.
