Bashneft Allocates over RUB 4 Billion for Environmental Projects

06 August 2024

Bashneft (an enterprise of Rosneft Oil Company) spent more than 4.1 billion rubles on environmental projects in H1 2024, up almost 14% year-on-year.

Preservation of the environment for future generations is an integral part of the corporate culture of Rosneft. The work of the Company’s enterprises is aimed at achieving the leading role in minimising environmental impact and improving the sustainability level of the production.

A prominent focus of Bashneft’s environmental activities is the protection of ecosystems and biodiversity, as well as the replenishment of natural resources. In 2023, the enterprise’s employees together with their families planted 513,000 new trees on an area of 158 hectares in Bashkortostan and Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area, including 36,000 trees as part of the Memory Garden International Campaign and the Green Bashkiria Republican Environmental Campaign. The enterprise will continue to plant trees on a large scale this year. On the territory of Bashkortostan and the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area, new forests will grow on an area of 164 hectares.

Furthermore, in 2023, Bashneft released 26,000 fry of valuable species into the water bodies of Bashkortostan and the Nenets Autonomous Area. This year, the enterprise plans to release more than 146,000 fry.

Biological waste treatment facilities of the Ufa Refinery Group processed 11.8 million m3 of wastewater in H1 2024. Over the six years of operation of this asset, more than 146 million m3 of wastewater has been treated. The biological waste treatment complex serves not only Bashneft’s refineries, but also 66 enterprises in Ufa’s northern industrial zone, as well as treating storm water runoff. The complex offers the highest level of treatment of industrial, storm and domestic wastewater, increasing the volume of reused water in technological processes by 2.5 times. The water quality complies with the standards set out for fishery water bodies.

Bashneft’s plants have achieved a reduction in their atmospheric air impact of almost 4% over the past six months. The technical re-equipment of the unit involved in phenol and acetone production at Ufaorgsintez petrochemical plant, as well as the unit for hydrotreatment of oil distillates at the Ufa Refinery, has helped achieve this.

Associated petroleum gas utilisation in the main production region, the Republic of Bashkortostan, was at 95.7%.
