Rosneft starts production of more environmentally friendly drilling fluids

The Angarsk Petrochemical Company, a Rosneft refining and petrochemical complex enterprise, has commenced production of Rosneft Drilltec B2lh drilling fluids. These fluids have been developed with an environmentally-conscious focus, utilising a low-viscosity hydrocarbon base.
The new technology, which produces a more environmentally friendly hydrocarbon base, was developed by specialists from Rosneft, Angarsk Petrochemical Company, RN-Lubricants and the Corporate Research Institute in Moscow.
With the new development, Rosneft Drilltec B2lh fluid has reduced aromatic hydrocarbon content to 0.8% and sulphur content to mere 2 ppm. Another advantage of this innovative solution is that it can be used in cold climates, as the product solidifies below -40°C.
The Angarsk Petrochemical Company has already shipped the first batches of the new product to Rosneft’s drilling divisions. Hydrocarbon-based fluids with low plastic viscosity are used for drilling long horizontal wells. The technological advancements in the oil and gas industry are driving an increased demand for innovative materials.
The new drilling fluid production capacity at the Angarsk Petrochemical Company exceeds 2,000 tonnes per month.
