Born in 1955.
In 1981 he graduated from the Bruno Leuschner Higher School of Economics, where he specialised in National Economics (qualified economist).
In 1993 – 1995 he studied at Dresdner Bank AG in Bad Homburg (Germany) and in London (UK) and was awarded a degree in Credit and Risk Management.
In 1990 – 2006 he was involved with the financial activities of Dresdner Bank Group in Frankfurt am Main, St Petersburg and Moscow (he held the positions of President, Chairman of the Board and Chief Coordinator of Dresdner Bank Group AG in the Russian Federation).
Warnig has been managing director of Nord Stream AG (Switzerland) since 2006.
Member of the Board of Directors of Rosneft since 2011.
Since July 2014 – Vice-chairman of Board of directors of Rosneft.
Matthias Warnig also serves on the boards of a number of foreign and Russian companies. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Bank Rossiya, a member of the Supervisory Boards of VTB Bank and Verbundnetz Gas Aktiengesellschaft, Chairman of the Administrative Board of GAZPROM Schweiz AG and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Transneft and Rusal.
